Presentation

The discovery of new brain structures can improve our knowledge of brain functions and pathologies and allow the emergence of new neuroanatomical targets for treatment. Our team is studying a recently described brain structure, the tail of the ventral tegmental area. This structure also called rostromedian tegmental nucleus (RMTg) is a major inhibitory control center of the dopaminergic systems.

Our research is part of a better understanding of the roles played by the tail of the ventral tegmental area in the control of dopaminergic systems as well as in various pathologies associated with these systems, such as in Parkinson’s disease, mood disorders or depression.
